Lewisham Council gave (short) notice to the proprietors in Catford Mews this week.  The Mews will close on 3 July. The Council have offered the retailers packing boxes if they don’t manage to sell all their stock in that time.

According to one retailer some shopkeepers have not been paying their rents which has spoiled it for the rest.  The Council currently charge peppercorn rent and would prefer to sell the mews to someone willing to pay more.

Word is they may already have a buyer but keeping it to themselves.

This is bad news for the retailers who are trying.. I have noticed the scafholding around the cat, what is happening with this much loved landmark, hopefully having a paint up and not being removed !
