Are you unemployed and interested in working in construction?
An open day showcasing employment and training opportunities in the construction industry will be held on Wednesday 17 February.
The event is aimed at unemployed Lewisham residents aged 18 years and over with limited or no experience in the construction industry and who are looking for training and employment opportunities, work placements and apprenticeships.
Residents will be able to talk to representatives from a range of construction employment and training providers including: Ardmore, Building Lives Training Academy, Barratt, FM Conway, Stanmore, SIA (Security Industry Authority) and Lewisham Southwark College.
According to Cllr Alan Smith, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet member for Regeneration and Growth, the construction construction is one of the fastest growing employment sectors in London. Over the last few years the borough has benefited from new homes, retail and leisure facilities and this is set to increase even further in the years ahead.
The Cllr said: “We are working with our partners to make sure that our residents are able to take full advantage of the opportunities that come with that growth – which in real terms means local jobs and training opportunities for local people.
“This open day is an opportunity for residents to meet with some of the key employers in the local sector and to discuss potential training and job options. Even if you don’t think a career in the construction industry is for you, come along and see what roles and training opportunities are on offer – you might just surprise yourself.”
The construction opportunities open day will take place on Wednesday 17 February from 9am–12.30pm in the Civic Suite in Catford, SE6 4RU.
