I remember travelling to Deeprose brothers to get spares for my Royal Enfield. Des Deeprose was well-known in the business. I have a collection of old bike magazines somewhere around, and I am sure there were pictures of the premises in their adverts. I’ll take a look around.

Dear Ron, I remember Deeprose Bros very well, I often used to go there are look at the bikes, of course I could never afford the prices. I was a velocette fan then and I remember trying to save up for a bike they had on the forecourt which had a price tag of £147.00. Anyway to get back to your question I have got a friend that I have known for a few years now and we were just talking one day and I don’t know why but I mentioned Deeprose bros, his reply was “I used to own them” I couldn’t believe it. I will speak to him and find out if he has any pictures of the place.

Phil

Dear Ron,
I had a word with my friend that used to own Deeprose Bros and he has indeed got a few photos that he said he would be prepared to let you have. I don’t know if we can put phone numbers on this forum but if we can get in cantact with each other I can certainly help you out.

Hi Phil.
I am wondering (and hoping) that you were successful in getting hold of the photographs of Deeprose Bros, Catford. I know RON is keen on seeing these too. I would just love to see a photo of the shop front as it was in the 1960’s. Kind regards
Tony

I too am interested in obtaining a photograph(s) of Deeprose Bros in Brownhill Road, Catford. My mates and I used to travel from Dartford to visit their shop and remember being able to get cups of coffee there. A great place that had a big thrill for us all.
Any chance of seeing them on the site, or even possibly emailing me a copy or two.
Very much obliged to you.
Keep up the good work
many thanks

Dear Ron, I don’t actually have the photos but I telephoned the man that used to own deeprose and he said that he does have some. I’ve no idea what they are like but I would imagine they show the shop. He said that he is happy to let some go for nothing. So I will contact him again and get him to send me the ones he is prepared to get rid of. I remember the shop very well and remember looking at all the bikes that I couldn’t afford at the time. I met him years later and we were just talking and I must have mentioned deeprose ans he just came out and said “I used to own the shop” I couldn’t believe it. if you are… Read more »

Hi guys!
I used to love Deeprose of Catford!! I used to be a despatch rider @1990. I had a Honda ns125r that I traded for a Yamaha RD125LC.
I had a few problems with it in the first couple of weeks including a breakdown on the A2. Nothing was ever too much trouble for those guys, they were so helpful And rectified all the problems without question! Even changed all the bodywork to Marlboro racing colours from a custom blue black and pink that they sold the bike with cos the paint was fading! (They had the marlboro and a gauloise blonde bodykit hanging up in the shop!!)
Always helpful and welcoming! Shame they are no longer.

I also remember Deeprose well. In the 1970s and 1980s I bought several new motorcycles from them. They had another shop by Lee Station where my Velocette was fixed. It was taken over by Ken Johnson who used to work for Deeprose and renamed Kickstart M/cs. I bought bikes from him too before I moved to Holland in 1992.

Hi David,
I did have some photos of the shop and there was also a very good article in the January 1996 Motorcycle magazine. I passed everything I had onto tony who lives in Dartford. You could gave him a ring on 01322 224261.
I hope this helps,

I popped by to see ken at kickstarts on Saturday, It is still as good as emporium as ever. There is an old picture of the shop hanging over the counter.
It speaks volumes that I haven’t been in for a few years (moved to Derby 10 years ago) and both Ken and Rob (who worked there as a mechanic when I first went there over 20 years ago) recognised me instantly . It really made my day catching up with them both and I am glad to see that the oldest and best bike shop in south London is still running.

Hi all I worked at Deeprose in the workshops between 1983 and 1987. Roger Ellis had just taken over ownership but was also involved with Farmer Fabrications in Lewishham/Deptford. Most probably best years of my life. Loved working on bikes and always had a Yamaha 250/350LC. May have some photos but would be of me and a few fellas from the workshops in Deeprose overalls. I started there really straight from school as I went to Catford Boys directly across the road and just would wonder around the bikes after school.
GREAT DAYS

I worked there with a few rogues between 1980 -1982 and it was one of the best jobs I have ever had, probably the worst paid but still brilliant.
Ken, good luck in your retirement it was a blast, regards Pete H.
