Catford Cat at night

Okay, it’s not moonlight but still the Catford Cat has never looked prettier. This is the first picture of the Catford Cat at night that I’ve seen. What do you think?

This is a screen grab from Luke Agbaimoni’s flickr page that he shared with me and I couldn’t resist sharing with you. Luke’s a photographer, go check out his other stuff.

I used to live with the cat that was the model for the sculpture – she was one of two cats called Kushla and Pushinka -Not sure of the spelling as I only ever heard them being called by their owner Bice McKeane- I lived in Hascombe in Surrey in 1982 and rented a room in the house where they lived – they were great hunters and very independant – very affectionate too. The sculptor was the son in law of Mrs M – cooincidentally I grew up in Catford in the 1960s- It has changed a lot since then! Seasons greetings. Simon Wood

Hi, i just found your interesting message and i wonder if you can help me please. Im wondering when the Catford Cat was actually erected. I have been trying to find some accurate info regarding this and have hardly found anything. There is a website that claims the cat was erected when the shopping centre opened in ’74 but i believe that to be untrue as i have clear memories of the Cat not being there in the 70s as do several others i have spoken to, im guessing it was erected in the early 80s but i can’t find anything that can prove this, an actual date, photos of it being erected etc. Any help would be most appreciated, thanks.
