Pokémon Go is still quite popular in Lewisham borough if the packed gyms are any indication. But if like me, you are the only one amongst friends and family who still plays the game, you’ll know how difficult it is to find raid parties to take down those hard to beat raid bosses.
Hanging around the Catford Cat hoping that people show up to battle raid bosses and trying not to look sketchy can be tiring. With the news that Mewtwo is coming to Pokémon Go, it’s time to coordinate gym raid parties.
Unlike the recent release of Legendary Pokémon in gym raids, Mewtwo will be tied to an exclusive raid system. This is how Niantic describes the new system:
“Exclusive Raid Battles are similar to existing Raid Battles, with a few notable differences. Exclusive raids will periodically appear at Gyms around the world; however, unlike existing raids, Trainers will be invited to join an Exclusive Raid Battle. To receive an invitation to participate in an Exclusive Raid Battle, Trainers must have successfully completed a raid recently, by defeating the Raid Boss, at the Gym where the Exclusive Raid Battle will be taking place. The invitations will include advance warning of when the Exclusive Raid will take place, giving them ample time to coordinate with other Trainers before taking on the powerful Raid Boss.”
This means that in order to get an invite to the exclusive raid, players have to raid a specific gym. This may be one of the crappiest ideas Niantic have come up with and could alienate a lot of casual players who don’t want to battle raid bosses every day.
The company haven’t announced a timetable for when Mewtwo will be released and they haven’t even mentioned how recently you need to have battled a gym to be in with a chance of an invite. Regardless of all that, I still want to be in with a chance of catching Mewtwo.
In preparation for Mewtwo’s release, I’d like to join any raid parties happening in Catford. My main focus will be the gyms at the Catford Cat, Catford Sculpture and the Salvation Army but I’m open to any other local raids.
I’ve been watching a lot of Pokémon Go YouTubers who have successfully coordinated raid parties, they’ve been successful mostly because they have a large Twitter following. For us poor south Londoners, Discord chatrooms may have to do.
If you need to gather a bunch of people to take down tier 3/4/5 raid bosses, there is a London Discord channel where people go to coordinate raids. Follow the link, accept the invite and click on #se-raids to see what’s happening in your area.
If you are on Twitter, you could try to coordinate raids. I’ve been looking out for the following terms: #pokemongo raid #Catford
At the moment, my best advice to be in with a chance of an invite to the Mewtwo exclusive raid battle is to battle tier 1 and 2 raid bosses at gyms within easy reach of you. If we can all agree to battle the gyms mentioned above, we might be able to get a big enough group together to take down Mewtwo when he’s finally released.
Let me know in the comments if you already have groups set up and which areas you want to target.
