Despite the rain forcing the party to take cover, the hardcore BBQed their way through the drizzle to enjoy The Corbett Residents’ Association’s first Big Lunch on Abbotshall Playing Fields, Catford, on Sunday 5 June.

More than 70 people enjoyed the afternoon, which included a visit from the local fire engine, a bouncy castle for the kids, adult and kids’ football matches, a cake competition, plus a fantastic selection of salads, BBQ foods and drink donated by neighbours.

The community lunch was attended by MP Heidi Alexander and Lewisham Councillor Alan Smith.

The Corbett Resident Association was set up in August 2010, and has since also held a community fireworks event, Easter Egg Hunt, Quiz Night. It will be repeating last year’s successful fireworks event this year on Abbotshall Fields.

Residents of Muirkirk, Merchiston, Dowanhill, Ardoch, Ardfillan, Birkhall, Balloch, Killearn, Braidwood and Abbotshall roads who are interested in joining or learning more, can contact Mekor Newman on
