Rising Sun Pub Catford

Rising Sun Pub CatfordWork has started on the demolition of the Rising Sun pub.  New flats will replace the old yellow pub and the car park behind it. The planning application was approved as noted in the Housing Implementation Strategy. Works will be delivered by Gintel Buildings Services Ltd.

Previous planning applications were refused for various reasons. One was refused because one of the proposed blocks would have had significant overbearing impact on two properties in Wildfell Road. I imagine all the issues have been resolved in the new plans.

It’s a lot of reading but if you are interested there are a bunch of site plans over on the planning website.

For those who like bite sized information this is what the end result would like:

Other Rushey Green related news

Road works have meant the traffic lights outside the 99p shop are temporarily disabled. There’s a sign that gives a September 2013 end date. I don’t know if this is related to what’s happening with the pub. I just glimpsed the sign to be honest.

Also, the flats above the old cooker shop are taking shape.

I wish it had been revived as a pub. Looked like it could have been really cool.

Back in the sixties I taught an evening judo class in Holbeach Road School. Afterwards we all adjourned to the Rising Sun. If we had spent as much time on the mat as we spent in that pub we would all have got Black Belts….
