I am finally pursuing a dream I’ve had since childhood which means I won’t have the time to dedicate to this blog. I’m therefore looking for someone to take over and nurture what I consider to be a valuable resource to the community.
For sale – £100
There’s no such thing as a free lunch so I’m not flipping the blog for free. I’ve built this space over several years and would like it to go to someone who really cares about the community, is willing to attend important meetings and keep the locals informed. That takes commitment and shelling out £100 assures me that you are serious about continuing the legacy.
Obviously, there is nothing to stop anyone from taking over the domain and turning it into something else but I’m really hoping to find a genuine new owner for this space.
What you get
As the new owner you will not only have this blog which brings in roughly £80-£100 in Google and other ad revenue (no, it’s not a lot but that wasn’t the point for me), you will also have the Catford Central Twitter account which currently has 4,443 followers and many of them are really engaged.
Other social media accounts
I haven’t posted for a while on Instagram but it hasn’t prevented the account from growing. There are currently 493 followers.
There is also the Facebook, Pinterest and Google++ accounts. It seems like a lot but each social media account helps to drive traffic back to the main website. I can show you how to automate posting to some of these accounts. As the new owner you get to make the decision on what you want to keep and what you want to close down.
The website is built on WordPress (WP) because I’m a WordPress Developer who loves the WP content management system. If you are new to WP, I will be happy to train you on how to use it. It’s not scary at all. If you know how to send an email or use Microsoft Word, then you are halfway there.
Cost to maintain
Before you make the decision please factor in the continued cost of running a website namely domain renewal and web hosting fees.
The Catfordcentral.com domain is set to expire 14 October 2018. You will need to renew the domain name in order to keep it.
To run a website and email accounts attached to your domain name, you need web hosting. If you are new to these terms, WP Beginner explains things here. Domain renewal is currently £11.99+VAT per annum. Hosting costs depend on who you choose to host with but can be as little as £33 per year depending on who you choose to host the site with.
I pondered on how to choose a new owner because it can’t just come down to who is willing to pay. So, I decided to try asking a few questions about your vision for the website. If you’ve got this far and you are interested in becoming the new owner of Catford Central please complete the form below.
What’s the alternative?
If I can’t find a new owner, I will transfer the site content to the free WordPress platform at https://catfordcentral.wordpress.com and leave it there for posterity.
Closing date for applications: 30 September 2018
