Plans to develop the old Catford dogs site has fallen through.
A major development on the site of the former Catford Greyhound Stadium has fallen through due to the recession.
The major development of the Catford Stadium site was approved in October 2008. Plans included 589 homes along with new shops and a community centre.
Owing to the economic downturn and a failure to secure Government Kickstart funding, the scheme is considered not to be financially viable.
Deputy Mayor of Lewisham Councillor Heidi Alexander said: “It’s disappointing to think that the dog track site isn’t going to be redeveloped any time soon, but I do think this gives us an opportunity to go back to the drawing board. “At the moment the overgrown site is an eyesore.”
Landowner the Homes and Communities Agency is now considering how to take forward the development of the site.
