Lewisham Refugee and Migrant Network (LRMN) is hosting a day of reflection, discussion and celebration on the issues and contributions of refugees during Refugee week.

Refugee Week takes place every year across the world and encompasses World Refugee Day which is on the 20 June. In the UK, Refugee Week is a nationwide programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK, and encourages a better understanding between communities.

The LRMN event aims to:

  • Provide an overview of the refugees and asylum seekers’ plight amidst the current economic and political climate;
  • Discuss changes on the Immigration Act and other repressive measures which discriminate and violate human rights;
  • Raise the public’s awareness on the challenges of claiming asylum including Human Rights claim and having No Recourse to Public Funds;
  • Promote the image of refugees and celebrate their contributions.

The event will be held at the Civic Suite in Catford and includes cultural performances and food.

The main Speaker will be Vicky Foxcroft, Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC)
